Learning outcomes |
The course works as an introduction to the themes of gender, class and ethnicity in literature and culture. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to define and critically evaluate different socio-cultural categories, including gender and sexuality, class, “race”, ethnicity and nationality. They will be able to apply literature to these questions and will have knowledge of the history and current state of the traditional theories concerned with these themes (i.e. feminist literary research, Marxist theory and post colonialism). |
Contents |
Unlike introductory courses to cultural and societal studies and their relation to literature, the course offers a deeper insight into literary and cultural research concerning gender and sexuality, class and capitalism and ethnicity and nationality. |

A course concerning each of the themes is arranged approximately every three years or more frequently. Book exams can be taken on the faculty’s scheduled examination days. Completion by essay or study group can be suggested to the teacher responsible. |
