Learning outcomes  After the course the student knows the clinical manifestations, diagnostics and treatment of neurosurgical diseases from the general practitioner`s point of view. 
Learning activities and teaching methods  Lectures (14h) including patient demonstrations. Mandatory small group patient rounds and discussion /8h). Four symposia. 
Recommended or required reading 

Neurosurgical hand-out: Ukkola Veijo, koivukangas John, Heikkinen Esa, 50 pages (also available in the internet).

Lindsay-Bone: Neurology and Neurosurgery Illustrated, latest edition.

Grading  Final examination ( 6 essay and multiple choice questions). At least half of the total points are needed to pass the test, and minimum of 1 point per question must be achieved. One month of clinical internship can enhance the grade.

Other information  Alternatively, international students can also get full ETCS credits through the Erasmus program clinical elective. This requires full time (8.00 am - 3.45 pm) participation in all clinical activities for a minimum of four weeks. For ETCS credits the above textbook final examination must be passed: it is usually taken during the last week of practice.
