Learning outcomes 

After this course the student is able to treat common respiratory diseases. The student has basic knowledge about respiratory diseases, pathophysiology of these diseases and common lung function tests. The student knows how to deal with problems that are not resolved and treated in primary care.  

 
Contents  Respiratory medicine and clinical cases. Measurements of lung function, performance of common lung function tests and the assessment of the test results. 
Learning activities and teaching methods  1. Lectures 16 h.
2. Small group classes 4 h. Attendance is compulsory.
3. Practice in outpatient clinic 4 h. Attendance is compulsory.
4. Seminars 11 h. Attendance is compulsory. 
Recommended optional programme components  Student must have completed preclinical studies and propedeutics of internal medicine. 
Recommended or required reading  Kinnula, V.L., Brander, P.E., Tukiainen, P.: Keuhkosairaudet (III uudistettu painos 2005), Kustannus Oy Duodecim. 
Assessment methods and criteria  Attendance at compulsory teaching. Exam of respiratory medicine. 
Grading 

Grading scale in exams is 1-5.

 36-40=5, 32-35=4, 28-31=3, 24-27=2, 20-23=1

Exam consists of five short essays. Six points is maximum / essay. Exam is failed if the total points are less than 13 or if one of the essays is worth of 0 points.
